Google Launches Its New Google Web Metrics With Little To No Buzz

Every web page developer wants their website to do well. Everyone wants to be the talk of the town when it comes to the reliability of a website. Today, developers use various tools to optimize the content that they provide on their respective websites.  This article is about New Google Web Metrics.

According to Google, over 252,000 websites are created every single day. Not every single one of these websites can rise to the top as there is only limited space but, what the developers can do is optimize the performance of their website to the fullest and google web metrics were created for that very reason.

What is Google Web Metrics?

Google metrics are a part of Google Analytics which helps a developer to know how their website is performing on a day-to-day basis against other websites that are available on the internet. Google analytics provides its users with statistics and basic analytical tools for search engine optimization and other marketing purposes.

To improve the user’s performance further, Google launched its new Core Web Vitals algorithm on the 28th of May 2020. With the introduction of this new component, Google has made sure that the site which performs the best will be shown on the top search with keeping in mind the user’s experience.

Another important element of the new google metric tool is the implementation of Next.js.

Next.js is one of the most popular applications which is used by developers all over the world to improve the performance of their application or website. It is a react framework that enables plenty of extra features which include generating static websites and server-side rendering.

Further explanation of the new Google Metrics Converter

Now that we have understood the new Google metric on a surface level, let’s take a deep dive into how it focuses on three main aspects of the user’s experience, which are loading, interactivity, and visual stability. These include the following metrics and their respective thresholds –

1. Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)

It is a metric that measures the total amount of time that a website takes to display the user the largest content on the screen and prepare it for the interaction. LCP should occur under 2.5 seconds from the moment the page first starts loading.

2. First Input Delay (FID)

It measures the time from the moment when the user first interacts with a particular site to the time where the browser can respond to that interaction. To provide an optimal user experience, pages should have an FID of 100 milliseconds or less.

3. Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)

Introduced by Lighthouse in 2020, CLS is a performance metric that is used to measure the perceived visual stability of a page load. To provide an optimal user experience, pages should maintain a CLS score of 0.1 or less.

How does the New Google Web Metrics provide better help?

The new google web metrics provide a better user experience and it helps the developers by providing the best SEO services with the help of above mentioned three google core web tools. Speaking about the tools, Jordan Alder, engineering manager for Onesingnal, expressed his feelings about how these new changes will help the developers to improve the overall performance of their website. Now developers can actually understand their impact on core web vitals with the help of using the Lighthouse tool by themselves.

With that being said, the new Google metric isn’t without its critics. “The specific mechanisms of measurement were unclear, and Google often had to delay or soften the rollout of these changes to not over-emphasize mobile usability over other ranking factors,” said Alder in an interview.
